I told you so!

If you get a chance to listen to the sermon from our Glik Park Sunrise service, you will understand this post much better.

I was talking about how science changes but the bible does not.  I even mentioned how there are more elements on the atomic chart than there were when I was in high school.

This morning I found this:

Scientists made a weighty announcement this week: 19 elements on the Periodic Table, including gold, arsenic, and aluminum, have been assigned new atomic weights. Remember the glory days when cadmium was 112.411(8) atomic mass units? No longer. The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry says it's now 112.414(4) amu, reports LiveScience. Fans of the nonmetal selenium may note that this is the first time the element's weight has been revised since 1934.
The adjustments were made thanks to better calculations and more precise measurements, and though they may seem tiny, they're a big deal to scientists. "Knowledge of atomic masses is important to understand the laws of physics," says an IUPAC spokesperson. "A good recent example of that was in 2005 when high-precision measurements of atomic masses allowed researchers to test the validity of the iconic 'E=mc^2.'" A full list of revised elements and their new weights is at the IUPAC.

Hope to see you all soon.  next Service Oct. 6th.   Love Pastor Kent

Just another Tuesday?

I've decided to make this Tuesday become one of the most important Tuesdays ever. Because I am going to challenge myself and others to begin a new era of thinking of what the body of Christ, which is more commonly known as the church, should look like, and what it should be doing.

Some are not going to understand it, at first, but I will be able to explain it biblically.

Imagine this, a body of believers who gather and anonymously begin impacting the world for Jesus.
Lets come together and allow Jesus to take over all the we do.

Jesus said something that has been ringing in my ears ever since I read it many years ago,

Matthew 6:1-4

Giving to the Needy

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

We want what God has for us, but we always want it on our terms. But God says:

Isaiah 55:8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts

Something new is on the horizon for PCF!  God's ways!  I don't know about you but I am ready for all that God has for me!

Hope to see all of you soon,  Next service October 6th, 6:30 in the Sanctuary.

What I love About Praise Community Fellowship

I love the fact that we are not stuck in our ways. As a matter of fact we are seeking our ways which allows God to lead and guide. It is great to say, "Hey this week, lets meet early at a park, outside on a chilly morning and a bunch of us show up!"

I say lets stay that way, not stuck in our ways. Lets stay nimble, debt free, loving, caring, inviting, welcoming, and always, always always, wait on God for His ways, His guidance. Let's let God move us to become significant for His Kingdom. Expect great things because we worship a great amazing God.  Keep prayer close. Trust and believe and move forward one step at a time.

I think this is a great verse to keep handy. As a matter of fact it's our Jesus experiment verse for this coming week.

Colossians 3:12-14

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

See you next Sunday regular time 6:30 PM at the church.

What's the Point?

This is the question I ask myself regularly about who we are as a church, who I am as the pastor, and where it is that we are wanting to go. In other words so we have become a church called Praise Community Fellowship, "What's the Point?"

So now I am a pastor, "What's the point?"

Where are we going as a church? and, when we get there, "What will be the point?"

As I have thought about these questions many times for many hours I have come to the conclusion that it is tremendously important for all of us to understand "The Point!"

Here is what I believe the "Point" is. The point of church is to learn how to become like Jesus; live our life like He lived, love like He loved, forgive like He forgave, show compassion like Him and sacrifice for others as He did. The only way to become like Him is to accept Him for who He said He was, the Son of God and Savior of all mankind.

So going back to our questions: What is the point of Praise Community Fellowship?
Answer: Everything we do must have as its primary purpose to bring people into a loving relationship with Jesus and to demonstrate the love, forgiveness, compassion, and healing that Jesus demonstrated.

What is the point of being a Pastor? To lead and demonstrate the love, compassion, forgiveness, and healing of Jesus and to help all who want and need to find this healing love in their life. Sometimes I will be effective, sometimes I will fail, understand that. The Key for me is to keep the "Point" in front of me at all times.

Where are we going as a church? To become more and more effective at introducing people to Jesus and then how to become more like Him. If we are not becoming more and more effective at reaching the lost and more and more effective at changing lives then we are failing our mission. Everything we do at PCF has to have as it's primary focus reaching the unbelievers, and effectively modeling Jesus to the world? So if we decide to have a concert for example the question we must ask ourselves is, "How will this concert reach the lost and how will it model the life of Jesus?

No matter what the future holds for PCF, lets never loose focus on the "Point!"

Love, Pastor Kent  Sunrise service this Sunday, weather permitting. I will be giving more details soon.  Keep posted,

Lunch Break Thoughts on God...Some Things Never Change

Those of you who have children know that sometimes our kids disobey and disappoint us. I would imagine most of us can go back to our teenage years and remember when we knew a lot more than our parents about life and everything else.  As a matter of fact some of us kept that attitude for many years.

I think most Christians are still teenagers when it comes to our Heavenly Father. We still know more than God when it comes to life and the way to live our lives. I mean what does He know, He's not in my shoes, He can't possibly expect me to always follow His way.

Curfews, rules, dress codes, expectations, manners......Man was created in Gods own image. I'd say God has His hands full. Pretty amazing how things come around and stay the same.

Now on the lighter side.  Last night my mother-in-law Snookie showed me a funny sign that read:

TEENAGERS, are you tired of being harassed by your                                    Stupid Parents?
ACT NOW!!!
Move Out            Get a Job            Pay Your Own Bills
While you still know everything!

Tonight: Staying The Course With God, A Vision Unfolding

We will gather tonight and I will be talking about where we are and where we are going. Not just as Praise Community Fellowship but as Christians.

I am going to talk very frankly about what lies ahead for us and how it will depend on our "faith" in the reality of God and who He is.

I hope you will join us no matter what church you attend or are a member of. This is a message for all Christians but it will be especially relevant for PCF and our future.

We are on the banks of the Jordan river and are being led to cross over into a new land. I hope you will come with an open mind and heart tonight as the Holy Spirit begins leading us into the promised land.

See you tonight. Love, Pastor Kent

This Sunday, Are you a "Caleb or Joshua?" or one of the other "10?"

If you would, please take the time to read the following chapters in the old testament: Numbers Chapter 13 through Numbers 14:10. This is going to be a very important story for our lesson this Sunday.

Be prepared!  We are on the verge of a great faith journey.  Come one come all if you want to step out in a faith walk that will take you into a whole new experience with your relationship with the living God.

See you Sunday at 6:30 PM.  Love, Pastor Kent

The Dream: To Watch God Work His Plan

This Sunday I will culminate the series on Hearing Gods Voice by talking about us, Praise Community Fellowship. I think the title of the sermon will be "Staying the Course because We Trust and Believe!"

Last post I said there are great things on the Horizon for PCF.  There are great things but, we must be anchored in Gods word and listen to His voice if we expect to see these great and mighty things.

I hope you will join us for this very important message on hearing Gods Voice and Direction for PCF this Sunday Sept. 8th.

We will share communion and come before God to learn, to listen and to hear from the Creator of the Universe.

This Sunday at 6:30,  come with expectations of meeting God and the path He is setting before us.

See you Sunday, Love, Pastor Kent

African Story # 2 Dirt roads, chickens in church and a cemetery

The roads we traveled on in Zambia were definitely unforgettable.  For you country folks, think of the worst field road you have been on.  Dirt, dust, giant holes, dips and places where if you get a tire stuck, you have to get out and push.  Our bus held about 27 people legally, and some days we had over 30 stuffed in there.  There were supposed to be 3 seats across, but a seat folded down in the aisle for extra coziness.  One day we squashed 5 people across as we bumped and dipped down the dusty dirt roads.  It was not unusual to have someone’s shoulder practically up your nose.  Personal space: Ha!  What is that?  On the way to one of the communities we tilted so far to one side, that it felt as if we would tip over.  We leaned to the other side to try and balance out the weight as our driver navigated the road (or path) to our destination.  When we got there, and entered the dirt floor church built out of boards letting in the outside light, some women were cooking in the back.  Three live chickens looked at us as they sat in a box right next to a pot warming up on the hot coals.

As soon as we were seated in plastic lawn chairs (some which only had three legs) the sound of joyful singing surrounded us.  We didn’t sit for long.  When you go to church in Africa, be ready to stand, clap, stomp, sing and yes, even dance.  The songs go on and on.  They don’t worry about what song they will sing next, or how long it will last or when they get to sit down.  They just sing praises as long as they feel like it.  They are grateful for the present.  After our welcome, our mission team filed outside to meet with the people.  As we walked by, I noticed those three chickens were gone and the pot was boiling.  How is that for fresh food?

After we were finished with our groups, we had plenty of time to hang out.  Some of our girls, soon found themselves in the middle of a hair styling party.  Holding kids on their lap, they were soon surrounded by more Zambian children who styled and braided our “Azungu” or “white people” hair.  Their jovial voices sang continuously in English and in their native tongue of Nyanja.  Caleb, one of the teens on the trip, pulled out a soccer ball and started a game on the rocky, uneven, dusty terrain.  That was a treat, because their usual soccer ball is made out of trash, held together by a plastic bag and bound together by string.  They make due with what they have.  The singing from the hair styling party and the energetic voices playing soccer blended together brought tears to my eyes as I thought of how content and grateful these people are.

When it was time to go, hugs, warm handshakes, kids holding our hands and thank you’s were abundant as we tried to inch our way to our bus.  Remember the chicken? That was for the church community.  Peanut butter sandwiches awaited us on our bus.

Before leaving, we were directed to an open field in front of the church.  I could tell something was up, but did not know what.  Everyone got quiet as Andrew, who is the director of African Vision of Hope operations in Zambia, asked us if we knew where we were standing.  Dried up grass crunched under our feet as we looked down at some trash scattered here and there on some uneven mounds of dirt.   We stood very close to where the kids played soccer, where we had our hair styling party and close to where this village came to worship.   The chatting among us stopped as we realized where we were surrounded by mounds of dirt with little makeshift markers.  A cemetery stretched out as far behind us as we could see.  I noticed several smaller mounds of dirt.  These were the graves of children.   Forty percent do not make it to age 5 and for those who do, their parents may not make it.  This community is hard hit by AIDS, other diseases and extreme poverty.  Here, death is a part of life.

We had a sobering, eye-opening end to a joy-filled day.  Their contagious laughter, singing, praise and constant smiles ministered to us.  As we drove away I figured out that they are just thankful for every day they are alive.  They do not rely on material possessions, or a fancy church to make them happy.  They have God and they have Jesus and they have each other.  Each day is a reason to celebrate and be grateful.   By Laurie Frey

What kind of God do we Worship?

Most Christians can recite John 3:16

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

But John 3:17 is also an amazing verse of scripture.

John 3:17
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

God sent His Son to SAVE the world. Jesus wants to save us, not condemn us.
Jesus is God. The Holy Spirit is Jesus' Spirit that will live in you when you accept Him as your Lord and Savior.

So......if you have accepted Jesus as your Savior you have the Lord of the Universe living inside of you. The Lord that wants to save you and give you life here and now and life everlasting.  Sounds like the Gospel to me.

By the way for you sports fans.  When the Cardinals manager Mike Matheny signs autographs he always puts John 3:17 after his name.  Sounds like Mike likes the "good news" of Jesus.

See you all next Sunday. We will come together to break bread and worship our "Savior" and hear more good news.

See you then. Love Pastor, Kent
