Stop "Going" to Church!

Wow my pastor just said Stop Going To Church.  That's right, we need to stop just going to church and instead we need to become the church.

  Lets look at what the bible says;

Acts 17:24

24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.

1 Corinthians 3:16

16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

God does not live at church He lives in you! If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior you are the church. And, if God lives in you and you are the church, meaning the body of Christ, what is holding any of us back from becoming Jesus to the world?  We have become a society that "goes" to church the building, but we are called to "be" the church and there is a big difference.

Just something to think about.  God has a plan for you life and it definitely is all about you becoming the church.

This Sunday Announcemts

Sunday June 2nd

This Sunday's topic will be Money.  We will also come to the Lords table for communion.  We celebrate open communion at PCF meaning all who attend our services are invited to participate at the Lords Table of Grace.

The bible has much to say to all of us about money and assets. Come rich or poor the bible has a message for you regarding money. This is a very important topic that cannot be ignored when it comes to your spiritual growth. We all need a higher level of knowledge when it comes to our earthly assets. I think you will be surprised at the amount of information available to us in the bible regarding our earthly treasures.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:  There will be a desert social after this Sundays service. I hope you will plan on joining us after the service for fellowship and desert provided by Gary and Linda Daniel and friends.

See you soon.  Love, Pastor Kent

Higher Level of Knowledge

Q. Why should I read and study the bible and listen to sermons?
A. For a higher level of knowledge of Gods Kingdom.

Q. So what is a higher level of knowledge and why is it so important?
A. Because when you have a higher level of knowledge your life can become greatly enhanced which in turn can enhance others lives.

Let me give you an illustration.  I work on a MacBook Pro laptop computer.  That is what I am using right now to write this blog.  This particular computer has an amazing amount of features and capabilities. Unfortunately, I only know the very basics. How to turn it on and off, word processing, search the internet. I am not touching the capability of this computer.  Why?  Because I have not invested the time and effort to learn how to properly use this tool. With a higher level of knowledge my capabilities on this computer would expand at least a hundred fold.  Why in the world don't I take the time and effort and probably expense to learn it?  Because like most people I settle for a lower level of knowledge because it is easier.  I haven't reached the the tipping point where the pain of not learning is more painful than the pain of learning it.

This is true with almost everything that can be life enhancing. Achieving a higher level of knowledge of your spouse, their likes and dislikes, their dreams, their inner thoughts, their fears, etc. would allow you to be a better loving and caring spouse.

A higher level of knowledge of your job can make you more valuable to the company.  The beautiful thing about achieving a higher level of knowledge in any given field is, it can not only bless you but others.  This is certainly true with our spiritual growth. Achieving a higher level of knowledge of God and His ways will allow you to get much more satisfaction out of this life.  It will allow you to live more in the Kingdom in this life. A higher knowledge of God would allow you to be a greater blessing in this life and also receive a greater reward in the life to come.

Another thing about attaining a higher level of knowledge is, there really is no ceiling. There is always more to learn. It is also very important to understand that this fallen world offers the choice of using a higher level of knowledge for good or for evil.

It is my desire as a pastor to help people achieve a higher level of knowledge of Jesus and His teachings so they develop a personal relationship with Him and continue their quest to learn more and more about the Christian walk. I too am learning and growing and seeking a higher level of knowledge of God and all that He desires. Seeking a higher level of knowledge of God is how to greatly enhance your Christian experience.

Always seeking and learning, love, Pastor Kent

Let's Talk About Money!

This Coming Sunday be prepared, your Pastor is going to talk about money!  Why is money so many people's favorite topic until it comes to Sunday in church?

We want to talk about our 401ks, our investments, our businesses, our homes, our cars, our second homes but dare bring it up in church and all of sudden everybody wants to head for the door.
So I thought I would give a heads up. We are going to start talking about what God says about money this coming Sunday, and He says quite a bit.

Oh there are so many questions to try and answer.  I guess I might see you this Sunday? I double dog dare you to come and be a part of this special service.

Love Pastor Kent

PS  No Wednesday night prayer meeting this week due to band rehearsal.

Sunday Correction

In my last blog I sent conflicting times for Sunday Service.  The correct time is 6:30.   Sorry.

Memorial Day

This weekend millions of people all over America will get together to "celebrate" Memorial Day.

Like many declared holidays, Memorial Day for most people will be a time of fun, meals with family and friends, and an extra day off from work. Memorial Day has become synonymous with many as the holiday that officially kicks off summer and all of its activities.  But to some families, Memorial Day is much more than a time to have bar-b-q and parties.

Memorial Day is set aside to honor the men and women who died while serving our country. For those who have lost a son or daughter, father or mother in battle, this holiday takes on a much deeper meaning.  It is a day to remember their sacrifice. The ultimate sacrifice.

Since 1776 it is estimated that over 2,718,000 men and women have died in battles and that is just people in this country. World wide it would be hard to imagine the amount of human loss because of war.

I believe in celebrating. We have to take time to gather, laugh, eat, drink, and have fun, share stories, dance, sing, and relax.  That is part of what makes life so precious.

Someday we are all going to die. That realization is what makes Jesus so important to anyone who loves this life and who does not want to loose anyone they love forever to the enemy we call death. Jesus is the remedy, the cure, the guaranteed fix, the complete restorer of loss due to death.

This Sunday Praise Community Fellowship will gather as we always do at 6:30. There will be music, conversation, fellowship, and the presence of God.  "For where ever two or more are gathered in my name, I am there in the midst of them.”

I plan to celebrate life this weekend. I will think of those who have died in service for my benefit. I will laugh with my family and friends. I will enjoy all that God has given me and I will, God willing, see all of you Sunday evening at 6:00. We will gather as friends and family to come together and worship Jesus, the one who gives life to those who become His.

Won't you join us? All are welcome. Come as you are!    Love, Pastor Kent

2 Weeks and 4 Tons Later

Two weeks ago I started a fairly large landscape project at my parents house. Today the landscaping is finished. I moved and rearranged approximately 4 tons of materials all by back and wheel barrow. From the comments we have been getting people are really enjoying it.  There are flowers, rocks, mulch, and edging. What was once an overgrown, common corner of the front yard is now a place of beauty.

But now what?  Soon, as the days pass,  the neighbors who are all oohing and aahhing will leave for work and come home and will barely notice the change. Even though it is beautiful it will become ordinary to many. Why? Because it is human nature to grow accustom to things. It is human nature to eventually take things for granted no matter how special they seem at first. Especially here in America where most all of us are just plain spoiled.  What is so wonderful, new and exciting today will tomorrow be..."Whatever!"

So what's the point?  Praise Community Fellowship was founded a mere year and half ago. We have done some amazing things in that short period of time.  What was once just a dream of a few has become a reality. We have had beautiful music, choirs, services, fellowship, dinners, excitement, dreams.  We have grown to the point where we weren't sure where to park because the parking lot is too small to accommodate.  We have dreamed of a larger facility because there were so many attending our services that we were running out of room. We have literally impacted people world wide through African Vision of Hope and those who sign onto our website from Russia, China, Germany and Africa.

Is our fellowship no longer important?  Has our mission to love others unconditionally so as to bring them into fellowship with our Lord Jesus become not so important? We are still just a baby. Not only that but we have started an amazing Christian fellowship from scratch.  We had no idea what we were doing. All we knew was that God had called a group of people together to make something wonderful happen.  Do you think God's call is over?  Have we made some mistakes?  Absolutely.  Will we make more?  Absolutely but the mission is just as important as it has ever been!

I will be preaching this Sunday from the bible about our dream. Where we have come from and where we are going. Let not your hearts be troubled!  There is much work to do for the Kingdom.  I am declaring this coming Sunday "BRING YOUR BIBLE SUNDAY!"  I am going to be taking you through specific passages that are important to grasp for this season in our young churches development.  I pray that you will join me this Sunday with your bible, with a friend you invite and be prepared to be filled with the Spirit of hope and renewal.

Your pastors heart has not changed. The dream lives and burns strongly within me.  There are souls to save. There are people who need to understand Jesus and who He "IS!"  I have never been more committed or excited about our church.  Please help me celebrate this excitement this Sunday.

Bring your bible and see you this Sunday!  With Love, Pastor Kent

Thought for Monday

Here is something to tumble around in your brain today. This is a very important question that demands an answer.

"Is your relationship with God THE most important thing in your life?"

Because it is impossible to live a blessed life without God!

This weeks schedule:

Tonight musicians practice at 6:15

Wednesday.....Are you stuck? Struggling?  Need answers?  Prayer meeting 6:30 in the sanctuary.

God is in control of everything!  He also has a plan for anyone willing to surrender their priorities to His priorities!  Oh that may take some thought.

Q. You mean I have to give up my priorities to serve God?
A. You bet!  It is the only way His work will get done.

Q. But what if I don't like the assignment he gives me?
A. Thats the crazy thing. I think more people miss out on Gods blessing because of that thought than anything else.  That is the very reason it took me so long to completely surrender my life to Gods plan. I thought that I could never be happy being a pastor. It just didn't fit into my plan.  I delayed my blessing for years and instead continued to struggle with life because I was going to do it "My Way!"
Completely surrendering to Gods plan is the only way you will ever be truly fulfilled and happy.

Q. If I surrender my life completely to God, does that mean I'll have to give up what I am doing now?
A. Maybe?  I don't know what God has for you and you won't either unless you completely surrender every area of you life to Him. You give Him complete authority over all things.

Q. That sounds too crazy, too radical. I mean I have worked a lifetime to get to where I am and enjoy all the fruits of my labor. Why would I want to give all that up, it just doesn't make sense!
A. Well, first of all who said anything about having to give up everything? It sounds to me that you have become very attached to the "things" of this world. Exactly what Jesus said not to do. Surrendering every area of your life to God means you are willing to go, give, or do what ever God directs you to do.  That is where the blessing is found. In complete obedience. Here is the fact of the matter. God loves you more than you can possibly imagine. What ever He asks you to do, you can bet will ultimately bring you the greatest blessing.

Give it up to God and start living!     Love, Pastor Kent

Why is ...?...so Important in your life?

This Sunday's sermon topic will be based on the following scripture:

Mark 8:34-37
34 When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

I hope you will join us this Sunday as I will be addressing the question: "Why is...?...so important in your life?"

We will also be celebrating the baptism of Vincent Bell Jr.  Come and open your heart to Gods Holy Spirit and start living life from a whole new reality paradigm.  "Yes I've got good news, what a beautiful way of life!"

God has a plan for you!  Come and discover what might be holding you back from fulfilling that plan.
See you tomorrow 6:30.  Love, Pastor Kent

Baptism This Sunday

This Sunday will be an extra special Sunday because we have a young man from our congregation, Vincent Bell Jr., getting baptized.  Vincent has been a faithful participant of our congregation and has made a well thought out decision of accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior and now wishes to be baptized.

We will have a reception for Vincent right after the service. I hope you will come and support Vincent in his decision as we come "Down to the river to pray."

I look forward to seeing all of you this Sunday.  Love Pastor Kent

Bring it into Focus

I have been landscaping. It is a  fairly large project. Building a stone wall, moving lots of dirt, and there are more materials on the way.  Right now it looks like a big mess. Materials strewn all over. Eventually it will be beautiful but it wont get that way by itself. I will have to lift, move, and arrange the raw materials into an organized plan.  It's not easy moving tons of materials by hand and by wheel barrow.

I could pray everyday for those materials to arrange themselves into a beautiful landscape but I would probably be looking at a pile of materials for the rest of my life with no results. What makes landscaping even more challenging is sometimes you run into unforeseen obstacles like tree roots or rocks or old concrete. Today I tore down a section of landscape wall that I worked real hard on for several hours yesterday.  Why?  Because it just didn't look right.  I could have continued and let it alone but then every time I looked at the project it would bother me. I would be thinking from now on how I should have done it differently so it looked better.

You and I are a pile of raw material. We need to be shaped and arranged into something beautiful. It can be hard work and sometimes we may have to tear down some things that we have already spent a lot of effort and time on. Why?  So we can glorify God in all that we are.

What raw materials are you still praying about to be turned into something beautiful? You may have to get up and do something, change something, tear something apart to get to where God wants you to be.
It may be a very hard thing to do and take a lot of work but it will be worth it I promise.

Love Pastor Kent.   Sore but motivated.
Drive by 657 East Lake Drive and you can see the project in process.

If you are "Saved" you are also "SANCTIFIED!"

Sunday's Sermon Take Away Points

If you have received the gift of salvation by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior you are now a child of God set part or "sanctified" to do a special work.  You are set apart for a specific divine Holy purpose. Understanding that is vital to having a powerful Christian walk.

There is no higher calling than to complete the special work God has set apart for you to do. You will find no greater self satisfaction, peace, or completeness, than conforming your life to doing Gods work.  We do this by conforming our life into the image and character of Jesus. This can take a lifetime and we will never reach a complete and total transformation in this life.  I liken it to coming into focus. When we first accept Christ and the salvation He offers we can have a very difficult time "seeing" what our new life should be. When we first become Christians, what Christ has for us will probably be completely out of focus. To bring His plan for our life into focus will require us to start re-prioritizing our life and doing things differently than what we are used to.

I think this is one of the big confusing parts about becoming a Christian.  We think that after accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior that everything will be on auto-pilot and we will automatically become more and more like Christ.  Not true.  As a matter of fact, if you make the decision for Christ and then do nothing, the devil will probably have a hay day with you.  He does not want anyone to accept Salvation and he especially does not want any of us to understand the Sanctification process of being set apart for special Holy, Devine work.

Satan is Alive and Very Active

Satan will try every trick in the book to convince you that you are not saved. He will tell you that the bible is irrelevant, it is a fairy tale made up a long time ago, this is the 21st century and it is no longer relevant.  And, he is extremely effective at convincing people who are involved in the work of God that they are waisting their time, that it really doesn't matter, and no one really cares anyway.
Oh, and he doesn't stop there. How about his ability to make everything in life more important than spending time on the work of God or on our Spiritual developement?  That is where he has duped almost everyone. Making us believe that  everything else in life has priority over God's work because God really doesn't care.

Steve Klingel our bass player mentioned last night after the service that another very successful tactic of satan has been convincing people that he himself does not exist.  Think about that.  What a great tactic, making us believe that there is no such thing as satan. If I do not believe an enemy exists, why should I be afraid of him?

As I have told you before in previous sermons that Christianity is like joining the YMCA to get into shape and loose weight and then never going to the gym to work out.

Are you a member?   Yes
Will you be allowed into the gym?  yes
Is all the equipment you need to get into shape at the gym?   yes
Does your membership card change your physical shape?   No

You have to go use the equipment available and then, over a period of time you will slowly but progressively bring your new, healthier you into focus. The only way your life is going to start conforming into the image of Jesus is through much effort, it is not automatic.

The church today has a real huge challenge.
How do you get the sick to the doctor if they don't believe they are sick?
Bonni and I believe, as do our choir and band members that music is a universal language. That Great God inspired music will bring people who need the message of Christ into the church.  We have some amazing talent and I want to warn all of you involved with the Praise Choir and Band that you are not exempt from satan's attacks.  As a matter of fact you are going to be very high on satan's seek and destroy list. But you have the power of God and the Holy Spirit on your side.

James 4:7

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

What a simple but profound statement. submit your life to God so that you can resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Why Are We doing What We Are Doing?
In other words why are we going through all the trouble of starting another church?
Does the town need another church?
Half the churches in town now are 1/2 empty on Sundays.
What is the point?  Have you ever asked yourself these questions?  I have and I think these questions deserve a well thought out answer. I can only answer from my perspective as a pastor.
I come to Praise Community Fellowship with one purpose only. To bring people into a close relationship with the real, living Jesus so they can experience the peace I have found in my life.  That is it. I have no other agenda.  I would imagine if you asked others they may have other answers.  So do we need another church for that?   I don't know.  Let me ask you a question.  What I think is  probably one of the most important questions you will ever answer in your entire life.

If you believe that Jesus is the only way to receive eternal life and that without receiving Jesus this life will one day end forever. Then how important is it that you and all the people who you truly love develop a close relationship with the living Jesus?  Here is what I think. Too many people still do not grasp all that bible teaches. Satan has convinced too many people of the lie he told in the Garden of Eden that changed the history of the world. "You surely will not die!"

What do you believe?  Oh, and here is one other thing to think about.  What you and I believe does not change the truth.

God really does have a plan for your life but it is up to you to bring it into focus.

See you soon.  Give me a call if you have thoughts.  Love, pastor Kent

Happy Mothers Day

I hope you will consider joining us tonight because I want to tie together and complete last weeks sermon on SALVATION.  This week we will look at the second part of salvation called sanctification and why it is so important to understand what that is in your Christian walk.

I think the best way to title tonights sermon is to borrow a term used by the late Steve Mizerany who said in one of his great commercials of the day, "Don't Be Confused!"

Tonight please join us as we:
Honor mothers
Worship with the Praise Choir
Fellowship
Hear the word of God
Love one another

Praise Community Fellowship, a place where unconditional love changes lives.

Hope to see you at 6:30.  Love Pastor Kent,  "One of the decent boys!"

PS This will be an excellent service to bring a friend who may be struggling with faith or understanding. "Don't be confused!"

Message in a Bottle

I have been blessed to have grown up on Dunlap Lake. I love to fish, swim, and just hang out on the water. I still live on the lake right next door to where I grew up. The lake has fascinated me since I was a Kid. I would often imagine building a boat, which my friends and I attempted on a couple of occasions...complete failure...and setting sail on the lake and heading to far off places.  Now as crazy as that sounds since Dunlap is only about 100 acres in size it is theoretically possible.

As a matter of fact if you live in any of the newer developments along Governors Parkway you could literally put a note in a bottle and drop it in one of the creeks during a big rain and have that note and bottle end up in some far off deserted Island in the atlantic ocean.  Really!   See the creeks along Governors Parkway all run into Dunlap. Dunlap then has an overflow that runs into Mooney creek which goes under Rt. 143 which eventually dumps into the canal which dumps into the Mississippi. The Mississippi goes to the Gulf of Mexico and once you reach the Gulf you have gate way to the world.

The Bible says

                Ecclesiastes 1:7

All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
    there they return again.

Praise Community Fellowship has a message of Hope, Love, Possibility, and most important Salvation. We are small, and we don't even have our own facility. BUT!  We are putting our  message out there every week.  Last week we had visitors from Texas. We have online visitors every week from all parts of the world. People come into our church from many backgrounds. Some only come one time. I see all people who come into our church as a vessel or a bottle in which to plant the message of salvation.  You never know where our message will end up.  That is why it is so very important for all Christians to understand that each of us can impact the world for Christ by being the messenger of Good News to who ever God puts in our path.

In one of my songs called "I Hope You Know My Name" I have a line that says "I am a speck in a sea of millions of people, How could you possibly even know my name?"
Sometimes our self inflicted insignificance hinders what God can do with us. Don't let that happen to you.

Matthew 5:14-15

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

I hope you will join me and the Praise Choir this Sunday as we throw our message filled bottles into the river of possibility.  God has a great plan for your life. Get on with it!  See you Sunday, Love Pastor Kent

I've been Thinking

I know I have not posted since Monday. That's because I have nothing important to say. I don't want to blog just to be blogging.  Now that I have said that, I'm worried about this post.  Maybe this will be thrown into the category of "nothing of importance to say?"

I know this Sunday is Mothers day.  I had planned on starting a sermon series on Money and Heaven and then I remembered it is mothers day.   I was not planning on a mothers day sermon. For one thing there is no mothers day in the bible. That is not meant to sound mean or against mothers day, I'm all for Mother's day, Father's day, Boss's day, Secretary's day, President's day...... all good. I just think that to best honor all the above we need to have a firm relationship with Jesus.  Then, Mother's day, Father's day and all special days can truly be special.

So this Sunday I am going to dedicate my sermon to all the mothers. I'm not sure if this is going to be the final title but the sermon will be on,  How to Change Your Life by Glorifying God.

I ran across something this week that really caught my eye that I have to share with you.  I think it was written by Mark Driscoll, but I'm not completely sure if that is the source.
This is funny to me but true.

"When it comes to living for God’s glory or our happiness, we tend to pick happiness and that’s when we sin. Sin is when we look at our options and say, “I can either glorify God or choose what think I need to be happy. I will eat a whole chocolate cake. I will drink light beer and I will get naked. I’ll be happy. I’m not gonna glorify God. I’m gonna be happy with a chocolate cake, the six-pack and the naked person. That will make me happy.”

"Or I can choose what I think I need to be happy" That is such a real statement. It goes back to what I posted last week. We think we know better than God what we need, what is good for us, or what will make us happy.

I hope you will join us this Sunday, Mother's day. There may be chocolate, cake? There will not be beer, and I promise I won't be naked. Actually we are all naked before God. There is nothing we are hiding from Him. Come join us and the Holy Spirit and see what God wants to do with your life.

See you soon, Love Pastor Kent

Last Night's Sermon    Salvation
Thank You Kerri Harbers for sharing your wonderful testimony with us.

Here are some bible verses you may want to read over and think about.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Romans 10:9
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

1 John 5:12-13
12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Acts 16:30-3
30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”

This is not a exhaustive list of scriptures that pertain to salvation,  there are many more. But think about what these simple scriptures offer us...Eternal Life!  Are you saved?  Are your friends and family saved?  This is our call as disciples of Christ. There is Hope in the Lord Jesus.  In Jesus there will always be a tomorrow, a better tomorrow.
See you soon.  Love Pastor Kent

Two Thoughts

I have two thoughts about what hinders my walk with God. Maybe you can relate.

This comes after an amazing presentation given by Steve St. Pierre, the former owner of the toy store in town, this morning at the mayors prayer breakfast.  Steve and his wife and his children sold everything they had here and moved to a rough part of St. Louis to start a ministry called Restore Saint Louis located at 1142 Hodiamont Ave. St. Louis Mo. 63112

I cannot begin to capture the spirit that Steve shared this morning but it was and is an amazing story and really got me thinking.

Here is my conclusion of why more of us including myself don't go all out for Jesus.

1.) We think we know better than God what is best for us.
2.) We are too comfortable.  I'm not sure if these two are in the right order.

Have you ever noticed that when you get real comfortable, you don't want to change?

OK that sums it for me.  How about you?

1.) How big of a blessing do you want to become in this world?
2.) What's stopping us?

Love, Kent
